John, a U.S. Marine, served on Guam and China with Hardie Pierce Jr.
John was a student at The University of Kansas. During summer break he drove to New York with a KU professor to see the East Coast. While there he continued up the coast to Maine to see his friend Hardie. John met Mona.
We returned to Topeka in the fall as Mr. and Mrs. Our four children are: J. Austin Logan III, W. Pierce Logan, Christy McDonald and Holly Logan.
As the babies started coming John became a union bricklayer and the business agent for the bricklayers. He eventually returned to school and became an ordained Presbyterian minister. I worked with him as a Christian educator in churches in the East Texas area.
We loved our work and we loved working together. Unfortunately, John died on July 1, 1982. A couple of sites in Carthage, Texas, are named in his memory for the service he provided that community.
On Nov. 24, 1990, I married Harlan Magee of Topeka. I first met Harlan my first summer in Topeka, the year of the "big flood," 1951. He worked with John. Harlan and his late wife, Delphine, lived in North Topeka. We and our children have been friends throughout the years. Mona is director of Dorstep Inc.
